Research area

My research in the Dordick and Garde groups focuses on the better understanding of enzyme behaviour in organic media. The goal of this work is to join experimental work and molecular simulation to answer fundamental questions: How water molecules act on the surface of an enzyme to influence their activity and structural conformation. Will these water properties have a local or global effect on the surface of the enzyme? Can chemical modifications or direct mutations in the enzyme surface give an answer of how water influences it?

I perform molecular dynamics simulations of enzyme-solvent systems to answer these questions.  The results of these simulations will be used to make predictions about hydration patterns and the effect of water on enzymes which can then be tested experimentally.
